Mole Valley & Epsom and Ewell Green Party announce their candidates and manifesto for the local elections on 5th May

25 April 2016

Full slate of Green Party candidates in Mole Valley show off their manifesto

People throughout Mole Valley will have the chance to vote for a Green Party candidate on a raft of policies that benefit the local community and environment.

The Greens have 14 candidates standing, including in the additional seat in Ashtead Common.

In Dorking the candidates are local campaigners Jacquetta Fewster in Dorking North and Chris Crook in Dorking South.

Jacquetta Fewster said: “we’re pleased to be able to offer a Green vote to everyone in Mole Valley, building on our track record of working in the local community on many issues including protecting the Green Belt and promoting renewable energy”.

Their manifesto can be found in full on the Mole Valley Green Party website with the highlights including:

  • Protecting the Green Belt and ensuring that local plans have at their heart policies which protect the environment.
  • Reducing air pollution from traffic, particularly giving priority to tackling pollution levels near our schools and hospitals.
  • Supporting the production of local, sustainably-produced and welfare-friendly food.
  • Improving our public places, planting more trees and flowers, supporting local artists, and reducing litter and health hazards such as dog mess.
  • • Promoting sustainable energy – that means requiring fossil fuel prospectors to identify how their operations will cause no harm to the environment, lobbying national government to switch its focus from the extraction of fossil fuels to renewable energy and energy conservation
  • Ensuring developments on Council land, such as the football stadium at Meadowbank, are built to the highest environmental standards.
  • Encouraging walking and cycling by improved pavements, public paths, safe cycle routes and reducing traffic speeds, so that walking and cycling are attractive, enjoyable and the first choice for short journeys. People with disabilities will face fewer barriers to mobility.
  • Supporting the building of affordable and energy efficient housing on brownfield sites
  • Actively encouraging projects that reduce and re-use waste, such as alternatives to plastic shopping bags and up-cycling projects, and get cartons included in doorstep collections.
  • Calling on the Surrey & Borders Partnership NHS to ensure the high-quality mental health services for children and young people are restored.
  • Supporting the campaign to safeguard Pippbrook House for public enjoyment.
