The Leatherhead Community Hub

Emily and Sally Stewart visited The Leatherhead Hub today as they were setting out food for the Community Fridge. Many local shops kindly supported the scheme alongsidedonations from Tesco’s Leatherhead and Ashtead branches, Ashtead Bakery, M&S in Ashtead and KFC in Leatherhead.
Inside the Hub’s busy Café, we managed to talk to a lot of people, all very happy to chat and discuss issues that they felt needed to be addressed in and around the area of North Leatherhead. One group of artists, who were on their break, felt strongly about issues like planting trees, cleaning up the River Mole, and a reduction in bus fares, with more single decker buses running, instead of double-deckers running less often.
Another group, including helpers from another voluntary centre were looking at providing further education for 16 -25-year olds, as they felt there was little training on offer in these areas for young adults.
Two mothers remarked on social behaviour, which might improve if some form of further education were provided for young adults. It was also mentioned that there was no youth group for under 11’s to attend.
Both of us found everyone open, really helpful and willing to discuss these issues and The Hub provided us with lots to think about and act upon. A great start to our new life as candidates for the Green Party
